My Story
|
I grew up with an athletic background: swimming, gymnastics, cheerleading, running, weight lifting, and springboard diving. These sports have one thing in common; they are heavily body-focused.
When I first started my journey to become a dietitian, I believed that being on a "perfect" diet and tracking every morsel of food was the solution to health. Instead, I found myself in a constant battle between negative body image feelings and striving to improve as an athlete. In 2017, I began working as a dietetic technician at an eating disorder treatment center, which further revealed how disordered my own eating behaviors were. I learned that I scrutinized the way I ate to control my life, and I no longer wanted to feel the guilt and shame that came with dieting. |
In 2018, I moved from California to Massachusetts to study at Simmons University in their MS/DI program. I participated in the Treatment of Eating Disorders Concentration, which has deepened my understanding of joyful eating & mindful movement. I now feel the freedom to enjoy and nourish myself with foods I love. I feel connected and empowered in my body while practicing yoga. Today, I proudly strive to be a non-diet, Intuitive Eating, and Health At Every Size-aligned dietitian.
